Thi August, Embrace was so proud to deliver a really special summer event in partnership with Spectrum Community Arts: an inspiring day that brought together young people, families, and two dedicated teams in a celebration of creativity, inclusion, and friendship.
More than Collaboration
Our relationship with Spectrum Community Arts, led by the incredible Jade Cook, has grown over many years. We started with a shared passion for supporting young people and their families, and from that common ground has grown a valued and trusted partnership, strengthened further by the connections we share through our staff and volunteers. This longstanding friendship between our organisations made this summer project feel especially significant: more than just a collaboration, it was a coming-together of like-minded communities with a fantastic shared goal.
An Inclusive Morning of Music and Movement
Held on 12 August at Marston Country Park, a fully accessible venue, we wanted to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for everyone involved. The day itself was thoughtfully designed by our talented facilitators, Jade from Spectrum Community Arts and Sarah from Keybeats, who created an amazing programme of creative experiences. And with Embrace staff on site to support all aspects of personal and medical care, families were able to relax and enjoy themselves, knowing their young people were supported all day long.
Throughout the morning, young people took part in two engaging workshops, exploring movement, music, and self-expression in ways that were accessible and meaningful to them. After an hour of creativity and exploration, the groups were able to swap, ensuring that everyone had the opportunity to experience both activities.
The intentionally small groups allowed participants to feel comfortable, confident, and fully involved – always the best foundations for forging genuine connections and shared enjoyment!
An Afternoon of Storytelling and Play
In the afternoon, everyone came together for a collaborative sensory activity, weaving together the themes and experiences of the morning through storytelling, movement, sensory elements, and imaginative play. This immersive session encouraged everyone to use and explore their imaginations, to communicate their thoughts and feelings about the morning, and to contribute to the group as a whole. It was a great way to revisit the day’s activities in a new and engaging manner, and to see how creativity can bring people together and provide new ways to connect.
Friendship at the Heart
Our biggest takeaway from the event was seeing what made it so special. At the heart of the whole day was friendship: between our organisations, between our staff and families, and most importantly, between the young people themselves. Working in partnership like this, Embrace and Spectrum Community Arts were able to reach and support more families than either of us could have achieved alone, and we were delighted to create a day of opportunities for young people to build new friendships, and strengthen existing ones, in a safe, joyful space.
Our summer event was a real celebration of what can happen when charities come together with a shared vision like this. It shows how collaboration can be so fruitful, not just as a practical approach for what you can offer people, but as a solid foundation for making a real and lasting impact for them. Together, we all had a day filled with laughter, creativity, and connection that will stay with us for a long time to come.
