Friends of Embrace are well known for their superlative fundraising endeavours – our chair of trustees, Paul Lockyer, is the latest to try something crazy in an effort to raise funds and support for our amazing charity.
Running 100miles Around Bedfordshire is the challenge. Starting on Thursday 3rd September he will attempt to run more than a marathon a day for three days, finishing with a half marathon at the Bedford Running Festival on 6th September. He sets off from his home in Podington, and takes in the delights of Biggleswade, Dunstable, Leighton Buzzard and Woburn before completing 87miles at Brewpoint in Bedford on Saturday. Then the relatively short 13 mile half marathon on Sunday to finish with the cheering crowds.
Paul said “an old bloke running a long way around our beautiful county is a bit daft and probably not to be encouraged. It seemed like a good idea at the time, to raise money for Embrace”. He explained what doing something “daft” like this means for the charity “Financial support from Bedford Borough and Central Beds councils to meet their legal obligations continues to be limited. Other similar charities have reluctantly withdrawn their offers this summer. Embrace are increasing their services, doing everything they can to meet this essential need and the increased demand from families and their young people living with complex disabilities”.
